Gurgaon residents complain against dumping of waste in Chakkarpur bundh
Residents of DLF Phase 4 have complained against the rapid dumping of construction and demolition waste near Chakkarpur bundh, which they claim will lead to blocking of natural drains in the city.
Residents of DLF Phase 4 have complained against the rapid dumping of construction and demolition (C&D) waste near Chakkarpur bundh, which they claim will lead to blocking of natural drains in the city.

Earlier, the civic bodies had tried to concrete the stormwater drain in the area and connect it with domestic sewage and industrial waste. However, the officials of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) had to stop since the process of concretising the drains is illegal. The process is also in contempt of the NGT order that says, “Drains in the city must be obstruction free. No rainwater drain should be covered or used to carry sewage.”
Even though the concretisation of nullahs has stopped, dumping of waste has made the area polluted and has increased the risk of flooding the city.
“We can see huge heap of garbage all around us and the civic body should take steps to create green cover. The garbage will engulf the city soon,” said MC Sihna, a resident of Richmond Park located in DLF Phase 4.
Environmentalists too are of the opinion that the dumping of garbage in the natural drain and in green cover area is leading to health issues and destroying the environment.
“Nullahs are very important groundwater recharge zones in Gurgaon. All nullahs need to be zoned as natural conservation zones, as per the provisions of the Regional Plan 2021. As NCZ, nullahs need to be protected in their natural state and not covered or concretised,” said Chetan Agarwal, environment analyst.
Every year during monsoon, several stretches and major junctions are waterlogged. Concretising the rainwater drains (nullahs) and blocking drains by dumping waste will only make matters worse.
