The city will soon have a state-of-the-art post office with free WiFi, core banking, railway reservation counter and a postal shop at the air-conditioned hall on Udyog Vihar postal campus. The postal office will be managed by an all-women staff that has been specially trained for the job.

The Udyog Vihar post office, which gets 400-500 customers every day, has been upgraded and will be inaugurated on Friday. The revamp is aimed at ensuring that postal services remain relevant and useful to the customers in an era of emails, social networking sites and mobile apps.
Postal authorities said it is for the first time in the country that five counters out of six will offer banking and postal services at the same time. They are also introducing a queue management system for customers. If this transformation is successful, it would be replicated across Gurgaon.
Postmaster general, Gurgaon zone, Umesh Verma said Udyog Vihar campus has a large number of daily visitors and so they wanted to create a world class facility for customers. “We will provide free WiFi, gifting and packing material at the post office, apart from improving ambience and the speed of providing services,” he said.
A cheque drop facility, automated sorting of letters and phone charging station are all part of the new scheme, Verma said.
An all-women staff will run the post office and they have been provided with technical training. The postal authorities studied the best practices in the UK and south-east Asian countries so that these could emulated in the country.
The delivery chain of the post office has also been mechanised and postmen will use motorcycles and e-rickshaws to deliver letters and packages.
In order to harness the business opportunity offered by e-commerce companies in Udyog Vihar and Gurgaon, the postal department has set up a call centre at the campus.
