However, the catch in the new plan is that all the agencies will have to adopt a humane approach to carry out this work. And there are separate strategies for dogs, pigs and monkeys that have been devised by the MCG to take control of the city’s streets

As far as rising canine population is concerned, the corporation has decided to focus on speeding up vaccination and sterilisation programmes. There have been rising case of dog bites in the city in the last few years, which has led to increasing bitterness between dog lovers and those who want action against the rise of stray dogs.

YS Gupta, joint commissioner, MCG said the goal is to ensure that monkeys are caught daily using nets, but it must be done in a humane manner. Gupta said the contracting agency will have to ensure that food, shelter and health care is made available to the monkeys.

Apart from that, the monkeys would be released in coordination with the forest department after getting them medically examined. The agency would also have to video-graph the entire process.

To check the menace of stray pigs, the MCG had decided that contractors will be used to catch them and the money earned by their sale would be given to them. There would be no need to deposit proceeds from their sale at the treasury.

However, strict rules with regard to catching of stray pigs, their care and sale would be made and have to be adhered to by the contractors.
