The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) is planning to expand the Raahgiri event to two more roads, in Sadar Bazar and Palam Vihar. MCG officials, along with the Raahgiri team, said that they had received an overwhelming response from the participants.

“Talks are on with the Raahgiri team to prepare a report about the feasibility of holding the event in Sadar Bazar and Palam Vihar, in addition to the existing spot in DLF City Phase 4,” said Yashpal Batra, senior deputy mayor of the city.
Raahgiri is a weekly street event which provides residents with an opportunity to reclaim their streets, connect with the community and celebrate their city by hosting various events like health camps, dance, games, aerobics, yoga, self- defence training, skating and other activities.. The event is supported by the traffic police, the MCG and the Raahgiri Foundation.
The objective of Raahgiri day is to make the city’s roads suitable for cyclists and pedestrians. It is an example of the people’s movement in Gurgaon to demand non-motorised public transport, initiated by private groups such as ‘Embarq India’, ‘The Heritage School’, ‘ I am Gurgaon’, ‘ Pedalyatri’ and ‘Duplays.com’.
“We are in the process of conducting a volume count and are discussing the matter with the councillors. We still have to finalise the length of the routes as well as the dates. We may begin by mid-August,” said Sarika Panda from the Raahgiri Foundation.
Raahgiri is planned on the lines of the Cyclovia event held in Bogota, Colombia, every week.
