Gurgaon cools down after sudden evening shower

City residents were greeted with pleasant weather after unexpected showers on Tuesday afternoon that led to a drop in temperature by three degree Celsius. Residents in some parts of the city also witnessed a thunderstorm during the day.

The meteorological department has forecast more rain on Wednesday too.

Slight to heavy rainfall was seen in Palam Vihar, sectors 31, 21, 23, 15, Golf Course Road, and Old Delhi-Gurgaon road around 4:30 pm. A number of sectors, including Sector 40, Sector 31, Sector 57, also witnessed some power cuts.

The maximum temperature was 30 degrees Celsius on Monday and 27 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, according to the meteorological department.

A cloudy sky for most part of the day, coupled with pleasant and windy weather brought some relief to city residents who have been suffering from a long spell of summer with the heat continuing through the whole of September.

“It was a wonderful surprise to see the rainfall after warm days in the city,” said South City 1 resident Shaloni Gera.

Meanwhile, the sudden change in weather forced commuters to huddle into nearby shops and restaurants. They were not prepared for rainfall as the day had begun with high temperature and humidity, which changed to a pleasant breeze and slight drizzle only around 3:30 pm.

“The temperature is expected to reduce further by next week. There will be more rain in different parts of the region with partly cloudy skies. There is also possibility of thunderstorm in the area. This year, the region will witness late arrival of winter,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

However, doctors warned that the change in weather may increase health problems. Due to the sudden change from the heat and humidity of the past many days to Tuesday’s windy and rainy weather, doctors suggested taking precautions against various kinds of infections.

“The sudden change in temperature can lead to bacterial and viral infections. With the rain, people will also get affected by flu,” said Rajesh Kumar, senior consultant, internal medicine, Paras Hospital in Gurgaon.
