Gurgaon residents can hope for a relief in paying toll at the Kherki Daula toll plaza as Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari has agreed to consider a 70% toll rebate for Gurgaon vehicle owners apart from the residents of 31 villages that are already exempted from paying the toll.

Gurgaon MP and Union minister of state for defence Rao Inderjit Singh made this announcement during a rally in Pataudi that was attended by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

A few days ago, the Gurgaon MP had met Gadkari in Delhi to remind him of his promise in July 2015 that the toll plaza will be removed. In 2014, he had also invited the transport minister for an inspection of the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.

In his address, Singh said Gadkari had assured him that a meeting of senior officials will be called to consider giving rebate to vehicle owners in Gurgaon till the time the toll plaza is not shifted. He exhorted Khattar to press for the removal or to shift the toll plaza.

For the last two years, the MP has been trying to get the Kherki Daula toll plaza removed or shifted as it has become a bottleneck on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. Singh had also raised the issue of the toll plaza and the lack of infrastructure in his constituency during the Happening Haryana investors’ summit. Prior to that, he had written letters to the Haryana government and Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari, highlighting the problems faced by commuters and the industry in Manesar.

“The Kherki daula toll and the congestion on the expressway has become a dampener for the industry in the Gurgaon-Manesar-Bawal belt. New investments are not coming and no new jobs are being created. The existing industry itself might exit this belt,” Singh said.

He, however, appreciated Khattar for announcing metro connectivity between Gurgaon and Manesar.
