Fearing arrest, ‘car thief’ attempts suicide in Gurugram
The accused was rushed to the Civil Hospital,where his condition is said to be stable.
Fearing arrest, while being chased by a police team, a vehicle-lifter allegedly attempted suicide by slitting his throat with a blade in Farrukhnagar, on Thursday morning, said the police.

The accused, identified by his first name, Raghu alias Ajay alias Sombir, was rushed to the Civil Hospital,where his condition is said to be stable.
Suresh Kumar, in-charge of the crime investigation agency (CIA) branch, Farrukhnagar, said after receiving a tip-off that a man, who had allegedly stolen a Mahindra Bolero from Manesar, on August 7 night, was near Anaj Mandi in Farrukhnagar, a team of five policemen laid a trap to arrest him. The police said the accused was carrying a sharp -edged blade with him.
“The accused, driving an allegedly stolen Bolero car bearing a Haryana registration number, was chased by the police. The incident took place around 11.15 am near Farrukhnagar Anaj Mandi. When he was cornered along a cul-de-sac, he panicked and attempted to slit his throat with a blade, possibly to evade arrest,” said Kumar.
An officer close to investigation said, on anonymity, that the man, aged 30, was a native of Hisar. “The accused was taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment. Prima facie, it seems that he attempted suicide out of fear. He had allegedly stolen a vehicle and a case of theft was registered at Manesar police station. His statement is yet to be recorded, since he is recuperating from his injuries,” said the officer. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 309 of the IPC at Farrukhnagar station.
