Criminals dump bodies on tracks to fox cops

After a 13-year-old girl was kidnapped and dumped near the Gurgaon railway station, more such incidents have come to light raising concerns over security in busy areas.

In Rewari, about 50 kilometers away from Gurgaon, two girls were abducted from the railway station in the month of May, according to police reports.

“Railway tracks are accident-prone, making them a favourable place for criminals to abandon bodies,” said Satish Singh, SHO of Government Railway Police (GRP) station at Gurgaon.

According to GRP records, 113 bodies were found in the Gurgaon railway station area in 2012 and 48 have been found this year.

Among the bodies found last year, 71 were victims of railway accidents, 15 were natural deaths, 26 were suicide cases and one murder. Out of them, 79 have been identified and 34 still don’t have a name.

At least one body is found every month near the railway station, said Gurgaon railway station superintendent, RK Meena.

Till May this year, bodies of two murder victims were found abandoned on the railway tracks. “These records include victims found in the railway station or on the tracks. Many cases are also handled by the civil police as the victims were found in the vicinity of the railway station,” said sub-inspector Ramphal, GRP station, Gurgaon.

Children are often found abandoned outside railway stations but such cases are reported to the civil police.

Meanwhile, the Gurgaon police commissioner, Alok Mittal, has been focusing on safety of women and children in rural areas falling in the district. The top cop has held seven meetings in the past two months with sarpanches.

In batches of 10-15 villages, 72 villages of the total of 250 in Gurgaon have been covered so far.
