According to the police, the incident took place around 2.30pm when Satpal Singh, the driver of the auto rickshaw , was ferrying a passenger from Hayatpur towards Rajiv Chowk.

Kamruddin, sub inspector, Sector 10 police station, said the auto rickshaw had reached the outskirts of the village when a truck coming from the opposite side allegedly hit the auto rickshaw.

“The auto rickshaw overturned upon impact and the victim, seated on the back seat, came under the vehicle. The victim was taken to Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival,” Kamruddin said, adding that the suspect driver of the truck, which had a Haryana registration number, fled the spot.

A case has been registered against the accused driver under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code at Sector 10 police station on Tuesday, the police said.

“We are trying to trace the driver with the help of regional transport authority officials,” Kamruddin said.

In another incident on Tuesday morning, a 28-year-old truck driver died after his truck collided with another truck near a roadside eatery in Farrukhnagar. The victim’s father said, in the police complaint, that his son died on the spot.
