20-yr-old woman raped on pretext of marriage

A 25-year-old Delhi resident was booked on Saturday for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman from Rajasthan on multiple occasions over the last five years after promising to marry her, the police said. The suspect is yet to be arrested.

The woman, in her complaint, told the police that she met the man in 2014 through a common friend.

According to her complaint, the accused befriended her and started messaging her on WhatsApp. He had promised to marry her, following which they got involved in a physical relationship, the police said. In 2018, the suspect shifted her to a rented room in Block U in DLF Phase-3, and used to visit her frequently, said the police.

On April 23, he again visited her and stayed with her for two days. On April 25, the woman complained of abdomen pain, following which the suspect took her to a private hospital, where a pregnancy test was conducted. The police said the test turned negative and both returned to their room.

“Later that evening he told the woman that he has to return to Delhi for some emergency work and will visit her next week. Since then his mobile phone has been switched off,” said Shamsher Singh,ACP (crime).

The woman filed a police complaint against the suspect on Saturday morning after her repeated attempts to reach him went in vain.

The woman’s medical examination has been conducted in a city hospital and her statement would be recorded before a magistrate under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code on Saturday, said the police.

The suspect was booked under Section 376 (2) of the IPC at the DLF Phase-2 police station. Efforts to trace the suspect are on, said the police.
