MET Gala loo controversy: Board members unhappy about celebs smoking, clicking selfies

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, US, recently hosted a bevy of international celebs at its 69th annual Costume Institute Gala, popularly known as the MET Gala. Dressed in the quirkiest of ensembles — something that MET Gala is synonymous with — the who’s who of Hollywood paraded to the museum’s ballroom for the fashion meet-up, but the real party seemed to be happening elsewhere. In the restroom!

Yes, a host of popular names such as Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Dakota Johnson, Bella Hadid, Sean “Diddy” Combs and Marc Jacobs were caught smoking and clicking selfies that they shared on social media. This didn’t go down well with the board members and donors of the museum, who have reportedly complained to Vogue US editor-in-chief Anna Wintour — co-organiser of MET Gala — and her team.

Celeb news and gossip portal Page Six quoted a donor as saying, “I was so insulted to see all these ‘celebrities’ smoking and taking selfies of themselves in the bathroom. Mostly, it’s disrespectful to the art collection, which needs to be kept 100% smoke-free. I would honestly like to see these people fined by the city.”

It was reported that some celebs were also vaping with something other than tobacco. Let’s see if any action is taken against the attendees’ shenanigans.
