Trench coat-inspired dresses seem to be the new fad every fashionista is opting for. From actor Deepika Padukone turning heads in a Michael Kors trench dress at the New York Fashion Week to Kajol upping her style game in a printed trench dress, the takers for this stylish outfit has grown manifold.

Fashion experts agree that the trench dress is indeed the hot new trend. “It’s cool and contemporary. The concept of outerwear turning into a dress is catching up and these beautiful ladies are giving us style inspirations with their bold looks,” says designer Urvashi Kaur, adding, “I like the way Indian designers are giving the trench dresses an interesting twist with prints and motifs — they really add to the look.”

The other reason why trench dresses are doing well is because it is perfect for the Indian body type. Designer Rina Dhaka says, “Trench dresses flatter all body types, and if paired with heels, look sassy.”

However, like all outfits, it has to be styled right. “The length of the dress should be short so that you can show off your legs. Keep the accessories to a minimum and wear heels,” says stylist Vikram Seth.
