Lakme Fashion Week 2018: Day 1 saw Prateik Babbar in drag and more edgy outfits
The Winter/Festive edition of Lakmé Fashion Week 2018 kicked off on 22 August and here are the highlights from day 1.
Lakme Fashion Week 2018 Winter/Festive edition began on an edgy note with creative collections that were a part of Gen-next initiative, spearheaded by INIFD. The 5-day-long fashion extravaganza will showcase works by designers such as Kunal Rawal, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Amit Aggarwal, Ritu Kumar and a finale by Monisha Jaisingh on Sunday.

On day 1, we saw some gutsy work by emerging designers. Designer Kanika Sachdeva’s collection – ‘The Artful Lodger’ was inspired by various homestay stories from across the world. Needless to say, the collection – made of roomy separates, trendy jackets and comfortable saris – is the perfect excuse to travel.
Designer Urvashi Joneja’s collection ‘Away’ was all about flow-y dresses. Striking graphics, meticulous pleating and raised textures were some of the highlights of her collection. Rhea Chakraborty turned showstopper for Joneja and looked stunning a black and gold dress.
Gender fluidity emerged as one of the biggest trends on day 1. For Chola the label by Sohaya Mishra, actor Prateik Babbar walked the ramp in drag. The collection was all about using drag as a means of creative expression.
Day 1 also had some stunning outfits by David Amraham and Rakesh Thakore of David and Abraham. Their collection Cocktail and Samosas was all about metallic hues, structured outfits and geometric prints.
Antar Agni’s collection showcased some smart cuts, relaxed silhouettes and nuanced details. It featured a mix of subtle prints and deconstructed metallic embroidery.
