Acid attack survivor Reshma Bano Qureshi has become an inspiration for survivors across the world ever since she walked at the New York Fashion Week. In an exclusive video, Reshma tells HT City how she put her past aside to fight against acid violence.
Acid attack survivor Reshma Bano Qureshi recently walked at the New York Fashion Week to increase awareness about acid violence.
Reshma has a message for those who use acid as weapon against women.
Reshma’s face was badly disfigured after her brother-in-law attacked her with acid two years ago. He mistook her for his wife (Reshma’s elder sister) . Reshma became severely depressed after she saw her face in the mirror for the first time, a few weeks after the attack. She disconnected herself from the world and started contemplating suicide.
A meeting with Ria Sharma of the NGO Make Love Not Scars, changed her life. Ria started a crowd-funding campaign to support her medical and legal expenditure. A few months ago, FTL Moda, a New York based fashion production house invited Reshma to walk at the New York Fashion Week.
HT City did a video interview with Reshma before she left for New York. We also planned a small surprise for her. We gifted her outfits specially designed for her by fashion designer Pawan Sachdeva and fashion label Mad Sam Tin Zin along with a bag by Samant Chauhan.
Reshma shares her awe-inspiring story in this video and tells us how she found the courage to put her past aside and take up the fight against acid attacks. The courageous teenager also has a message for those who use acid as a weapon against women.
