Braid your way to style: Hair is not supposed to look boring

Move over braided updos. This is the season of the good old schoolgirl plait.

While we have been raving about braided updos for a while now, the good ol’ fashioned school plait is back in fashion. From stylish fishtail as seen on Sonam Kapoor and Kajol to classic three-strand braid sported by Elli Avram and Evelyn Sharma, Bollywood actors are making the most of this trend. And, some style divas such as Sonakshi Sinha and Alia Bhat have given a fun spin to the regular plait. With oodles of inspiration to rock the braid from your school days again, there’s no stopping you from stepping up your braid game.

Get it right

Braids are a saviour when you are having a bad hair day. Just plait up your tresses and you’re good to go. In fact, it is also the best style fix if you have not washed your hair for 1-2 days.

If prim and proper is your style, go for neat braids. Set your braid with a hair spray and comb the sections using a clean toothbrush to keep the neatness intact all day long. You can also go for the messy version for a fun and flirty look. Let some strands escape and use a teasing comb after you have braided your hair.

While school plaits are in fashion, you must experiment with its placement. From the side to the crown area to above the nape, try it all out.

Fishtail fashion

Actor Sonam Kapoor embraces the geeky, ethnic look in her centre-parted fishtail braid. She lets a few strands play around her face for a feminine, soft look. Braids work well with western ensembles, too. Actor Kajol goes for a braided look with her dress.

The classic three-strand

Actors Elli Avram and Evelyn Sharma sport a side three-strand braid with their casual outfits. Neat braids are always in style.

Quirk up

While we like the classic braids, we love this spin of quirk. Go for the cutesy look like actor Alia Bhatt, who sports braided pigtails. Actor Sonakshi Sinha gives us an interesting hun-meets-braid look by braiding the leftover hair after the half bun. We also like the don’t-mess-with-me look of reality TV star Kim Kardashian, in a braided ponytail.
