World should prepare for El Nino: WMO
The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) has warned that the world should prepare for the development of El Nino, which is linked to severe droughts in parts of southern Asia, Indonesia and Australia, as well as extreme rain. A map issued by WMO on expected rainfall patterns globally during El Nino years showed most parts of north, northeast, northwest and central India experiencing dry periods during the June to September monsoon season. The monsoon season, which begins on 1 June, is crucial to India?s agriculture, one of the drivers of its economy.
