Volcano erupts again on Iceland peninsula, 4th time in three months; state of emergency declared
Icelandic police declared a state of emergency as lava spewed from a new volcanic fissure on the Reykjanes peninsula, the fourth eruption since December. The eruption threatened a fishing village and the Blue Lagoon spa. The eruptions have raised fears for the Svartsengi power plant. Iceland is home to 33 active volcano systems and the recent eruptions may mark the start of a new era of seismic activity in the region.
