Plastic production threatens 1.5 degrees Celsius limit, new study warns
A new study warns that if current plastic production rates continue, the global carbon budget to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius could be used up by as early as 2060. The study suggests a significant reduction in primary plastic production is needed to meet the Paris Agreement goals. Global plastic production accounts for a significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions, with drastic growth scenarios projected to exceed carbon budgets.
