Ending fossil fuel use only way to save planet: UN chief at COP28
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an outright end to the burning of fossil fuels, stating that reducing or abating their use will not be enough to halt global warming. Speaking at the COP28 summit in Dubai, Guterres urged fossil fuel companies to invest in renewable energy sources, while also calling on governments to regulate the industry and impose windfall taxes on profits. He stressed that the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius can only be achieved by stopping the burning of all fossil fuels.
