70% of environment journalists report attacks, threats, pressure: UN
Seventy percent of environmental journalists worldwide have faced attacks, threats, or pressure related to their work, with two in five experiencing physical violence. UNESCO warns of increasing violence and intimidation against journalists covering the environment and climate. Over 900 reporters were surveyed, revealing a global issue with 44 environmental journalists killed in the past 15 years. UNESCO will launch a grants program to support over 500 environmental journalists facing persecution.
