Twitter schools Divyanka Tripathi's ‘exciting’ reaction to earthquake: 'This is plain insensitive'

TV actor Divyanka Tripathi posted on Instagram Stories during the recent earthquake that it was ‘exciting’. Twitter users have slammed her tone-deaf reaction.

Yeh Hai Mohabbatein actor Divyanka Tripathi was slammed for her irresponsible reaction to the recent earthquake that shook parts of North India on Tuesday evening. Large parts of North India, including Delhi- NCR, felt the tremors of an earthquake of magnitude 6.6 which had its epicentre in Afghanistan. The actor took to her Instagram Stories to share her excitement in witnessing her "life's first earthquake". In an Instagram Story which later went viral on Twitter as it was shared widely by many, Divyanka expressed how "very exciting" it was to experience her first ever earthquake in Chandigarh. She said in the clip, "Okay, this is very exciting because I’m experiencing my life’s first earthquake and you won't feel it like this… Gali mohalla sab neeche aa gayi hai in Chandigarh. This is exciting, just for now, jab tak ke zyada nahi hota," (All the people from the neighborhood have gathered downstairs... until it doesn't get more stronger.) Several users slammed the actor for her tone-deaf reaction to a natural disaster.

Many users expressed their irritation for Divyanka's insensitive comments on the earthquake that could have caused serious damage to many people, and slammed the actor. One user reposted her clip and wrote, "Imagine someone from Turkey or Syria seeing this after what they've been though ....!!!! Natural Disasters are NO joke...!!!!" Another said, "People were scared, was in the fear of loosing their everything, and it was exciting for her seriously!" A comment read, "she lost it.... Who post such insensitive comments after whatever happened last month in turkey and Syria." Another user said, "How insensitive and pathetic is she to make such a comment after all the deaths that have taken place in Turkey and Syria that moved the whole world… some ppl are best at playing characters on tv because reality is a stark contrast!!"

News agency Reuters reported that at least nine people were killed and 44 injured in Pakistan by the earthquake that struck Afghanistan late on Tuesday. In Afghanistan, at least two people were killed in the temblor that was also felt in Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. In India, panic-stricken citizens came out on the streets at nearly 10:30 pm (IST).
