  Retro release: Pooja Hegde's special tribute

  Retro actor Pooja Hegde took a trip down memory lane as she picked up a very special saree from her vintage closet.

  Taking to her Instagram account on Sunday, the actor posted a series of pictures as she posed in a beautiful 70-year-old green Kanjivaram saree. The actress, who looked stunning in traditional wear, paired the saree with a matching blouse.

  Along with the pictures, the actress added a caption that read, "From the vintage closet, a 70-YEAR-OLD stunning saree... It took me back to the images of my beautiful Ajji (grandma) in her Kanjivarams going about her day, the fresh smell of mallige in the house before getting ready to go for a wedding, and the aromas of the wet Mangalore mud after the first rains... Oh, the beauty in the simplest things."

  #Retro - 3.5 stars. A moving story about a gangster’s search for his true purpose in life. Terrific first half with a lot of focus on character establishment and perfectly settling up the key conflict. Second half takes a complete detour and touches upon an entirely different sub-plot and this is where the film fumbles a bit but as is the norm with most KaSu’s stories, it ends on a super emotional high. The film’s biggest achievement has to be giving us a glimpse of the performer #Suriya we’ve been yearning to see on the big screen.

  #Raid2 is a below average sequel to Raid 1, film’s first half struggles due to slow pace and lackluster screenplay, not engaging enough . The second half is significantly better, featuring some impactful dialogues. However, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the film doesn’t quite reach the excellence of its predecessor.

  The intense and superb confrontational scenes between #SaurabhShukla and #AjayDevgn were the soul of Raid 1, and that same thrill and camaraderie is missing in the face-off between Ajay Devgn and Riteish Deshmukh. Even the climax lacks the shock value and power that Raid 1 delivered- it doesn’t leave a lasting impact.

  Ajay Devgn is in fine form as always,his dialogue delivery and intensity are spot on. #RiteishDeshmukh performs well, but he doesn’t come across as threatening enough in the role of a corrupt politician. #AmitSial act is top notch whereas Saurabh Shukla feels underutilized, and Vaani Kapoor’s character seems forced and unnecessary.

  #RajkumarGupta’s direction lacks freshness,it felt throughout the film as if he was remaking Raid-1 though on a much larger scale. There was no visible attempt to bring anything new or take any creative risks in his direction.

  Overall, Raid 2 is a strictly one time watch affair but if you go in with the high expectations set by Raid 1, you’re likely to come out disappointed.

  At the box office, it’s expected to perform far better than it merits largely due to Raid 1’s popularity and the high value of the franchise.

  HT review of Raid 2

  Ajay Devgn slips back into his familiar intense persona, echoing shades of his recent turn in Shaitaan. Still, his solid presence anchors the film, and the confrontation between his composed Amay and Riteish Deshmukh’s fiery Dada Bhai hits the mark.

  Riteish, known for his comic timing, proves — like his friend Akshay Kumar did in Kesari Chapter 2 — that he can be just as compelling in serious roles. His simmering, controlled rage is particularly effective. Amit Sial adds post-interval levity as the corrupt cop Lallan, though it occasionally veers into over-the-top territory. Saurabh Shukla’s return as Tauji from Raid feels abrupt, with his link to Dada Bhai lacking narrative depth.
