Rajpal Yadav in legal soup

Actor Rajpal Yadav is in legal trouble after a Delhi-based entrepreneur, MG Agarwal, filed a cheating case against the actor in the Delhi High Court recently. He alleged that Yadav, who turned producer with his upcoming movie, Ata Pata Laapata, took a loan of Rs. 5 crore from Agarwal (owner of Murli Projects), but apparently failed to deliver the money on time. The court has now put a stay order on the release of the movie until a decision is taken about the case.

On Wednesday, Agarwal’s advocate Shivshankar Panicker held a press conference in the Capital, where he said that Yadav cheated his client. “We don’t want to demean anyone. Our greatest fear is that this money we loaned might not come back. Our security which was the rights on the music and everything, are in danger and that’s why we had to take legal action,” he said.

He added that they signed two contracts with Yadav, which gave Murli Projects the rights to the music and overall production of the movie. However, Agarwal has alleged that Yadav went behind his back and released the music independently, and also declared the release date of the movie. “Yadav had given Agarwal and his company eight cheques, all of which bounced,” said Panicker.

“We got into this business for two things. First, he was a friend and he asked us a favour, and secondly getting into the music industry was a good proposition and we all thought our business will expand with this,” Agarwal said told us after the conference.
