Students of St. Xavier’s College take to the streets with contests and gimmicks to get first year students excited about festival.

In an effort to take their festival to the crowds, students from St. Xavier’s College went college-hopping as part of an initiative called Malhar on Wheels (MOW).

A group of Xavierites wearing sandwich boards, along with their mascot Puddles the frog, interacted with students through various contests.

“This idea was initiated three years ago, but came into action only last year. The purpose of MOW is to give college students a glimpse of the festival and attract them to it. It’s targetted mainly at FYJC students who are new to colleges and know very little about Malhar,” says Tanvi Saxena, organiser-in-charge of public relations.

Having received tremendous response last year, the students have gone a step ahead this year by visiting campuses in Thane and Navi Mumbai like SIES (Nerul), Siddharth College and DY Patil.

“This year, special backdoor-entry passes will also be given to students, which will be valid for August 14 and 15. They could write their names on these passes, drop them in a box and win a smartphone or styling products,” says Saxena.

Apart from these contests, spot-prizes, fliers, bookmarks and posters will also be given out. In the first leg of MOW, the students interacted with people from colleges like HR, KC, Jai Hind and Wilson.

In its second leg, MOW went to Bhavan’s Andheri and will be seen at Ruia, Ruparel and R A Podar today.

“Lots of colleges are interested in watching and participating in Malhar. When we went to Bhavan’s (Andheri), we interacted with a huge crowd, despite the rains and ongoing exams,” says Saxena.
