Harvard professor sues Anurag Kashyap for lifting Sold script

An Indian-origin Harvard professor and author, Siddharth Kara has filed a case against director

in the Delhi High Court, alleging that the script of Kashyap's film on child trafficking, Sold (2014) is based on his book Sex Trafficking: Inside the Business of Modern Slavery.

Anurag has been named in the case, with the film’s director Jefferey D Brown, producers Jana Charles and Guneet Monga and actor Nandita Das.

"In 2012, I became aware that the film’s script has several similarities to unique elements present in my script and book. I alerted my concerns to the producers and they said that they felt there was no infringement of any kind," says Kara, adding, "Anurag agreed that he had read my script, and was touched. But he also said he was only involved in helping find cast, locations, permits in India."

Kara then took the legal route to get due credit. While Anurag could not be reached for a comment, Monga said, "We are not involved with the film. I only introduced the US team to a few line producers here. I’ve never read any book or any script by Siddharth Kara."
