In a 2017 interview, Sridevi talked about how her daughter Janhvi Kapoor's marriage would give her “greater joy." She also revealed that initially she didn't wanted Janhvi to enter the film industry.

Actor Sridevi died in 2018, just a few months before her elder daughter Janhvi Kapoor's debut film Dhadak was released. In a 2017 interview, when Janhvi was shooting for the film, Sridevi shared her opinion about it. Sridevi said that when Janhvi told her that she wanted to join the film industry, she wasn't in favour of it and that seeing her get married would give her greater joy. Sridevi died on February 24, 2018, in Dubai, where she attended a family function. Sridevi tied the knot with producer Boney Kapoor in 1996 and the couple was blessed with daughter Janhvi and Khushi.

In a 2017 interview with Mid-Day, Sridevi has said, "She (Janhvi) wanted to do the film and initially, I wasn't in favour. I don't think it's a bad industry. I am a creation of this world. But, as a parent, it would give me greater joy to see her married. But her happiness matters more, and if she does well as an actor, I will be a proud mother."

In her last interview with Filmfare, Sridevi talked about her close bond with Janhvi. She said, “I’m closer to Janu and Khushi is closer to Boney ji. But we’re honest with each other and extremely close. Khushi is far more independent than Janhvi. Till today, every morning when Janhvi wakes up, the first thing she says is ‘Mama chahiye!’ But Khushi will say ‘Koko chahiye!’ Koko is her pet. Khushi and Boney ji gang up against Janu and me all the time.”

Born as Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan in 1963, Sridevi was known for her iconic roles in Hindi movies like Chandni, Lamhe, Mr India, Chaalbaaz, Nagina, Sadma and English Vinglish, among many more. The Padma Shri awardee had also made a mark with her performances in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada films. Her last film was Mom, for which she also received the Best Actress National Award, posthumously. (Also Read: Janhvi Kapoor asked Sridevi the spelling of her name, she spelt it wrong too. Janhvi made her Bollywood debut with Dhadak, alongside actor Ishaan Khatter in 2018. She will be seen next in Mili, backed by her father, producer Boney Kapoor. Janhvi finished shooting for the film last year. The survival thriller, directed by Mathukutty Xavier, is the remake of the 2019 Malayalam film Helen. Xavier had also directed the original movie. The film will also star actors Manoj Pahwa and Sunny Kaushal.
