Urvashi Rautela has reacted to Sonali Kulkarni's ‘women are lazy’ comment and said it doesn't apply to her as she is an outsider who made a career in Bollywood.

Urvashi Rautela has reacted to the remark made by actor Sonali Kulkarni that a lot of Indian women are 'lazy'. The actor-model shared her views on the recent backlash that was faced by Sonali when she spoke about modern Indian women and how they wish for a well-earning, settled husband while giving no input in the household's finances. Urvashi said that the reasoning 'doesn't apply' to her because she is an outsider. (Also read: 'Twitter should invent a virtual slap': Sonali Kulkarni's ‘women are lazy’ comment draws flak online)

In a video posted by a paparazzi account on Instagram, Urvashi was asked to share her views on the recent controversy surrounding Sonali Kulkarni's comment on Indian women, and said, "See the thing is... this doesn't apply to me. Because everybody knows I am an outsider. And everybody knows how hardworking I am, meine khud se apne aap pe.. apne balbute pe (I have made it by myself, without any support) I have made a career in Bollywood. Globally, fans they know me. I am the only Indian girl to win Miss Universe India twice. I am the youngest judge in history to just Miss Universe. So this, doesn't apply to me. This quote applies to all the velli (jobless) girls out there." Urvashi then concluded by saying that she doesn't want to hurt anybody but that is the reason of the matter.

Urvashi's response to the question irked many IG users who then commented how she is so narcissistic to deviate from the question and focus about herself only. "Self obsessed woman m this m that what was the question and what she replied," wrote one user, while another said, "She should be against this statement in general instead of jst self obsession." A comment read, "Didi aapki baat nhi ki gayi (This was not about you, sister)… in general u were xpected to support women," while another said, "Why defend misogyny when you can just defend yourself."

Meanwhile, actor Sonali Kulkarni issued a statement on social media after receiving criticism for her remark. In it, she wrote, "Dear all, I’m overwhelmed with the feedback I’m receiving. I would like to thank all of you, especially the entire press and media for the extremely mature conduct of connecting with me. Being a woman myself, my intention was not to hurt other women. In fact, I have extensively expressed myself time and again in support of us and what is it being a woman. I’m grateful to all of you for reaching out to me personally to appreciate or to criticize. Hope we will be able to have more open exchange of thoughts.”
