Reddit finds too many similarities between Pathaan's Besharam Rang and War's Ghungroo, chooses a clear winner
After the song launch of Pathaan's Besharam Rang on Monday, many commented that the visuals reminded them of Ghungroo from War, which was also directed by filmmaker Siddharth Anand.
Fans were less than impressed as the new song from Pathaan, Besharam Rang, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone debuted on Monday. Hours after the music video of the song was launched, Reddit users began comparing it to another Yash Raj Films production, War (2019), and the song Ghungroo. It was picturised on Hrithik Roshan and Vaani Kapoor. Both songs feature the lead pair enjoying time in the sun at an exotic location. They were also composed by the same duo, Vishal and Shekhar and written by lyricist Kumaar. Besharam Rang also features singer Shilpa Rao who duets in Ghungroo with Arijit Singh. One Reddit user stated, "Keeping the music videos aside, it’s definitely Shilpa Rao’s magic that’s making the song appear good." Another person shared, "Went back to watch Ghungroo video immediately, HR was so effortless in that, while SRK was trying too hard to carry that sexy look, plus the color grading on his body to bring out his cuts just felt so fake. SRK does not have that sexiness to him that HR possesses, he is charming but not sexy. Whatever little praise this will get is because of Deepika. She is looking like an absolute dream."
Both songs are set by the sea, with the female protagonist in a swimsuit, and the lead actor in an open, casual shirt and sunglasses walking in a similar style amid a crowd of people. Not surprisingly, both films are directed by the same filmmaker, Siddharth Anand. Another Reddit user commented, "Everything from the locations to the wardrobe to the placement of actors and their shots in Besharam Rang seems inspired from Ghungroo. It's like Ghungroo but the male protagonist never stepped in to dance, they oversexualized the female protagonist and the song isn't as peppy or groovy. I'm sorry but this song works solely because of Deepika and we all know why."
Other fans felt Shah Rukh looked out of place. "SRK’s face looks vfxed," said one user. Another person asked, "Is it make-up which makes him look weird? The lipstick though (frowning emoji)" The overall consensus of the online comments was that the excitement over the first song died down as soon as the video premiered. Pathaan, which also stars John Abraham, releases on January 25, 2023.
