Randhir Kapoor slams those who take 'liberties with Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor': 'I don’t know why'

Veteran actor Randhir Kapoor has lashed out at those who take 'liberties' with his nephew, actor Ranbir Kapoor and his girlfriend, actor Alia Bhatt. In a new interview, he said that he isn't aware of the couple tying the knot at the RK house. The ancestral home of the Kapoor family is in Chembur, Mumbai. (Also Read | Exclusive! Over the last week, several reports emerged saying that Ranbir Kapoor and Alia will tie the knot in the second week of April. Other reports suggested that the couple will get engaged in April and the wedding will take place in December this year.

Speaking to BT, Randhir said, “I don’t know why people take such liberties with Alia and Ranbir. They are to get married in the RK house? I have heard no such thing. Not that I am aware of.”

Earlier, in an interview with Hindustan Times, Randhir reacted to the news of Alia and Ranbir getting married. Speaking while on his way from Maharashtra's Shirdi he had said, “I’m not in Mumbai right now, and I haven’t heard anything about the wedding. If such a big wedding was happening at our house, somebody would have surely called me up and informed me.”

Ranbir and Alia Bhatt made their relationship official in May 2018 when they appeared together at the wedding reception of actor Sonam Kapoor. In an interview, Ranbir had also confirmed that they were dating. In 2020, Ranbir had said that they would have been married that year had it not been for Covid-19.

The couple will feature together for the first time in filmmaker Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra. The first part of the big-budget film trilogy stars Ranbir, Alia, and Amitabh Bachchan.

Ayan recently wrapped the film in Varanasi. Brahmastra was announced in 2014 with a scheduled release in 2016 but got delayed. Its principal photography began in 2018. After several release date changes and one nationwide lockdown later, the film is finally set to be released on September 9, 2022.

Brahmastra stars Ranbir as Shiva, a man with supernatural powers, Alia as his love interest Isha and Amitabh as Guruji. The first film will mark the beginning of a new original cinematic universe called the Astraverse. Produced by Fox Star Studios, Dharma Productions, Prime Focus, and Starlight Pictures, the magnum opus also features Nagarjuna Akkineni and Mouni Roy in pivotal roles.
