All nerves right now
Abhinav Bindra gets last minute jitteres before the World Championships begins. Read on for more...
For all my previous bravado and attempts at nonchalance, I am now in overdrive mode. The World Championships take place today. At the time you are reading this piece, I shall probably be tossing and turning, restless and unabashedly nervous, hours before the competition begins.

Writing this column has been oddly therapeutic. I thought I’d take a mental break from all that lies ahead in the next couple of days, and write about something completely different. But, I guess, it just won’t go away. So, here I am, sharing my uppermost thoughts with all of you.

I’m hoping I am on a positive curve right now; the last few days have been great in terms of recognition — I was nominated alongside great athletes as one of the ambassadors for the CWG.
It’s a great honour and I am hoping I’ll do justice to this title, coming as it does, just before a rather challenging championship. For now, I can only hope that the good news will propel me to push myself to new parameters!
The anxiety is building and, well, I think it’s only when I am actually competing that I’ll get a grip on it. I have been in official training the last few days. The pace has been very hectic and the adrenaline high. I’m seriously looking forward to unwinding when I get back. A few days devoted to precious nothing before it all begins again. I hope to have some time out to catch up with family and friends and perhaps perfect the art of a good laze!
