Kotdwar comes under the Garhwal district and it is one of the 70 Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly Constituencies . People of Kotdwar voted for Uttarakhand Assembly Election 2022 on February 14 and the result was declared on March 10.
Kotdwar assembly constituency had 1,02,890 electors in 2017, out of which 52,662 were male voters and 50,228 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.5% votes.
In the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Kotdwar constituency had 11 candidates for assembly seat contention. Kotdwar was one of 57 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bharatiya Janata Party's (DR) HARAK SINGH RAWAT won the election by upstaging Indian National Congress's Surendra Singh Negi by a margin of 11,318 votes.
96.8% of the total votes were casted to top two candidates. Bharatiya Janata Party's (DR) HARAK SINGH RAWAT got a total of 39,859 votes, while Indian National Congress's Surendra Singh Negi got 28,541 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Renu Agarwal grabbed 764 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties secured 56.4%, 40.4% and 1.1% respectively.
In Uttarakhand Assembly election 2012, Indian National Congress's Surendra Singh Negi beat Bharatiya Janata Party's Maj Gen (RETD) BHUWANCHANDRA KHANDURI AVSM by 4,623 votes.
