Yogi Adityanath meets PM Modi in Delhi, discusses new cabinet

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi, days after he secured re-election in the state assembly elections. On a day two-day visit to the national capita, he also met meet Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda, Union home minister Amit Shah and defence minister Rajnath Singh.

Earlier in the day, Adityanath met Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and BJP general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh.

The meeting between Adityanath and BJP's top leadership comes as Adityanath is set to become the chief minister for a consecutive second term. The meeting is likely to focus related to government formation. The leaders are also likely to discuss oath-taking ceremony date.

In the recently concluded Assembly elections, BJP won a landslide majority as the party campaigned under the leadership of Adityanath. Out of the 403, the BJP won 255.

As Yogi Adityanath became the first chief minister in 37 years to return to power for a consecutive term, his stature is believed to have raised in the party.

On Friday, Adityanath held a meeting with his ministerial colleagues at the party office in Lucknow.

Adityanath, a monk-turned-politician, won his first-ever Assembly election by a margin of 1,03,390 from Gorakhpur Urban constituency, defeating Samajwadi Party candidate Subhawati Upendra Dutt Shukla, who secured 62,109 votes.
