Top 3 ‘first-evers’ for CM Yogi Adityanath as BJP retains power in UP
As Yogi heads for an unprecedented second consecutive term, here are some 'firsts' the BJP leader will make.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is on course to a comfortable win in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, with chief minister Yogi Adityanath (contesting his first state poll) heading for a landslide victory in his stronghold of Gorakhpur (urban). As Yogi heads for an unprecedented second consecutive term, here are some 'firsts' the BJP leader will make.

1. First UP chief minister to finish his term and win a second
Yogi Adityanath will be the first Uttar Pradesh chief minister (in the state's seven decades of elections) to retain power after completing a full term. None of the previous chief ministers, including the BJP's main rival in this election - Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav - were able to return to power.
2. First BJP chief minister to retain his seat in Uttar Pradesh
Apart from being only the second UP chief minister to secure a second term, Yogi Adityanath will also be the first from the BJP to return to the state's top job in consecutive elections.
3. First chief minister to visit Noida and retain power
‘The Noida jinx’ is a superstitious belief among political parties and chief ministers in Uttar Pradesh that a person who goes to Noida during his/her chief ministership loses the next election. Yogi will be the first to break that jinx.
