Punjab Election: Shahkot Assembly Constituency 2022

Shahkot is one of the 117 Punjab Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Jalandhar district. Punjab Assembly Election 2022 for Shahkot was held on February 20 and the result was declared on March 10.

Shahkot assembly constituency had 1,72,253 electors in 2017, out of which 89,010 were male voters and 83,243 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.5% votes.

What happened last time

In the Punjab Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Shahkot constituency had 11 candidates for assembly seat contention. Shahkot was one of 15 seats won by the Shiromani Akali Dal. It was a close contest with Shiromani Akali Dal's Ajit Singh Kohar winning the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Hardev Singh Ladi by a margin of just 4,905 votes.

96.6% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Shiromani Akali Dal's Ajit Singh Kohar grabbed a total of 46,913 votes, while Indian National Congress's Hardev Singh Ladi got 42,008 votes. Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Amarjit Singh Mehatpur bagged 41,010 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 34.9%, 31.2% and 30.5% respectively.

In Punjab Assembly election 2012, Shiromani Akali Dal's Ajit Singh Kohar outperformed Indian National Congress's Col. C D Singh Kamboj by 5,435 votes.

Punjab: Setback for AAP’s ‘mission 13’, but solace on vote share front
