According to trends available at 12.30pm, the AAP was leading in 90 of the 117 assembly seats. The trends indicated that the ruling Congress has been decimated in Punjab, while the SAD, which contested the polls in alliance with the BSP, has failed to make much impact. All heavyweights of Punjab politics including former chief minister Amarinder Singh, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Sidhu, five-time CM Parkash Singh Badal are trailing.
Aam Aadmi Party's in charge of Punjab, Raghav Chadha on Thursday said Punjab will now no longer be known as 'Udta Punjab' (a reference to the drug menace) but as 'Uthta Punjab' (Awaking of Punjab residents), while Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia said the results are the victory of ‘aam aadmi’
Making a reference to Arvind Kejriwal's performance in New Delhi in the field of education, Chaddha said "Other parties tried to defame us, called Arvind Kejriwal a terrorist, people proved he is not 'atankwadi' but a 'shiksha-wadi'.
"Punjab has proven that it likes the Arvind Kejriwal-Bhagwant Mann pair and no other party's pair," Chadha added.
Punjab Congress chief Navjot Sidhu congratulated AAP and tweeted, “The voice of the people is the voice of God …. Humbly accept the mandate of the people of Punjab …. Congratulations to Aap !!!”
