AAP notches up massive lead in Punjab in multi-cornered contest
Counting of votes for 117 assembly seats in Punjab began on Thursday morning at 8.00 am amid tight security and Covid-19 protocol.
The Aam Aadmi Party is rapidly moving ahead of its rivals in Punjab with a significant lead in 71 seats, according to early trends put out by the Election Commission of India.

Delhi-based Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is leading in 71 seats, with the SAD and the Congress ahead in five seats and 15 seats each, while the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party are leading in 5 and 2 seats each.
An Independent candidate is also leading in one seat, according to data available on the Election Commission website for nearly 100 seats.

Hundreds of AAP workers and Mann’s supporters have gathered outside the Sangrur based residence of Bhagwant Mann. Ferozepur Rural, Kharar, Lehra, Dharamkot and Attari are among the seats where the AAP has registered leads so far.
The Shiromani Akali Dal is leading in Bholath and Tarn Taran.

A number of exit polls on Monday had predicted a clear majority for the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, a state currently ruled by the Congress with chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi at the helm.
In the assembly elections this year, Punjab witnessed a multi-cornered contest in a single phase poll, between the ruling Congress, that has fielded chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, as its nominee for the top post, the Delhi-based Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party tie-up, and the coalition of the BJP-Capt Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress party as the key political parties in the fray.
