Amritsar West is one of the 117 Punjab Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Amritsar district. Punjab Assembly Election 2022 for Amritsar West was held on February 20 and the result was declared on March 10.
Amritsar West assembly constituency had 1,79,761 electors in 2017, out of which 96,349 were male voters and 83,412 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.5% votes.
In the 2017 Punjab Legislative Assembly Election, there were 11 candidates in the fray from Amritsar West constituency. Amritsar West was one of 77 seats won by the Indian National Congress. It was a one way contest with Indian National Congress's Raj Kumar Verka comfortably winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Rakesh Gill by a huge margin of 26,847 votes.
96.0% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Indian National Congress's Raj Kumar Verka grabbed a total of 52,271 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Rakesh Gill got 25,424 votes. Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Balwinder Singh Sahota bagged 24,731 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 49.0%, 23.8% and 23.2% respectively.
In Punjab Assembly election 2012, Indian National Congress's Raj Kumar outperformed Bharatiya Janata Party's Rakesh Gill by 11,591 votes.
