In the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election 2018, Udupi constituency had 8 candidates for assembly seat contention. Udupi was one of 104 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bharatiya Janata Party's K Raghupathi Bhat won the election by upstaging Indian National Congress's Pramod Madhwaraj by a margin of 12,044 votes.
The top two candidates split 97.9% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's K Raghupathi Bhat got a total of 84,946 votes, while Indian National Congress's Pramod Madhwaraj secured 72,902 votes. Janata Dal (Secular)'s candidate Birthi Gangandhar Bhandary secured 1,361 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 52.7%, 45.2% and 0.8% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's Pramod Madhwaraj defeated Bharatiya Janata Party's B. Sudhakar Shetty by 39,524 votes.
