Shimoga comes under the Shimoga district and it is one of the 224 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Constituencies. People of Shimoga voted for Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 on May 10 and the result was declared on May 13.
In 2018, the Shimoga assembly seat had 2,46,552 registered voters, 1,22,213 were male and 1,24,319 were female voters. 0.3% of voters opted for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election 2018, Shimoga constituency had 20 candidates for assembly seat contention. Total 104 seats were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Shimoga was one of them. The election for Shimoga seat was comfortably won by Bharatiya Janata Party's K.S. Eshwarappa defeating Indian National Congress's K.B. Prasanna Kumar by a huge margin of 46,107 votes.
The top two candidates split 94.4% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's K.S. Eshwarappa got a total of 1,04,027 votes, while Indian National Congress's K.B. Prasanna Kumar secured 57,920 votes. Janata Dal (Secular)'s candidate H.N. Niranjan secured 5,796 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 60.7%, 33.8% and 3.4% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's K.B. Prasannakumar defeated Karnataka Jantha Paksha's S. Rudregowda by 278 votes.
