Sagar is the assembly constituency which comes under the Shimoga district. It is one of the 224 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Constituencies. Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 for Sagar will be held on May 10 and the result was declared on May 13.
In 2018, the Sagar assembly seat had 1,91,685 registered voters, 95,686 were male and 95,997 were female voters. 0.8% of voters opted for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In the 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election, there were 8 candidates in the fray from Sagar constituency. Sagar was one of 104 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bharatiya Janata Party's H Halappa Harathalu won the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Kagodu Thimmappa by a margin of 8,039 votes.
The top two candidates split 97.1% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's H Halappa Harathalu got a total of 78,475 votes, while Indian National Congress's Kagodu Thimmappa secured 70,436 votes. Janata Dal (Secular)'s candidate M B Girishgowda secured 2,100 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 51.1%, 45.9% and 1.4% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's Kagodu Thimmappa beat Karnataka Jantha Paksha's B.R. Jayanth by 41,248 votes.
