Bharatiya Janata Party's S Suresh Kumar won the election by upstaging Indian National Congress's G Padmavathi by a margin of 9,453 votes.
The top three candidates split 98.8% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's S Suresh Kumar got a total of 56,271 votes, while Indian National Congress's G Padmavathi secured 46,818 votes. Janata Dal (Secular)'s candidate H.M. Krishnamurthy grabbed the third spot with 13,637 votes. The top three parties got 47.6%, 39.6% and 11.5% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Bharatiya Janata Party's S.Suresh Kumar defeated Indian National Congress's R.Manjula Naidu by 14,767 votes.
