Nagthan is the assembly constituency which comes under the Bijapur district. It is one of the 224 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Constituencies. Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 for Nagthan will be held on May 10 and the result was declared on May 13.
In 2018, the Nagthan assembly seat had 2,56,811 registered voters, 1,32,527 were male and 1,24,257 were female voters. 0.6% of voters opted for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In the 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election, there were 12 candidates in the fray from Nagthan constituency. Nagthan was one of 37 seats won by the Janata Dal (Secular). It was a close contest with Janata Dal (Secular)'s Devanand Fulasing Chavan winning the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Katakadond Vittal Dondiba by a margin of just 5,601 votes.
The top three candidates split 96.2% of votes between them. Janata Dal (Secular)'s Devanand Fulasing Chavan got a total of 59,709 votes, while Indian National Congress's Katakadond Vittal Dondiba secured 54,108 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate Gopal Govind Karjol grabbed the third spot with 53,562 votes. The top three parties got 34.3%, 31.1% and 30.8% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's Raju Alagur beat Janata Dal (Secular)'s Devanand Phulsing Chavan by 667 votes.
