Indian National Congress's Amaregouda Linganagouda Patil Bayyapur got a total of 87,567 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Doddanagouda Hanamagouda Patil secured 69,536 votes. Janata Dal (Secular)'s candidate H.C.Neeravari secured 4,002 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 53.3%, 42.4% and 2.4% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Bharatiya Janata Party's Doddanagouda Hanamagouda Patil outperformed Indian National Congress's Amaregouda Linganagouda Patil Bayyapur by 3,037 votes.
