Kumta is one of the 224 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Uttara Kannada district. People of Kumta voted for Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 on May 10 and the result was declared on May 13.
In Karnataka Assembly Election 2018, there were 1,78,974 registered voters for Kumta assembly seat, out of which 90,208 were male and 88,765 were female voters. 1.2% of voters opted for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election 2018, Kumta constituency had 12 candidates for assembly seat contention. Total 104 seats were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Kumta was one of them. The election for Kumta seat was comfortably won by Bharatiya Janata Party's Dinakar Keshav Shetty defeating Indian National Congress's Sharada Mohan Shetty by a huge margin of 32,750 votes.
The top three candidates split 74.0% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Dinakar Keshav Shetty secured a total of 59,392 votes, while Indian National Congress's Sharada Mohan Shetty got 26,642 votes. Independent candidate Suraj Naik Soni bagged 20,474 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 41.2%, 18.5% and 14.2% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's Sharda Mohan Shetty defeated Janata Dal (Secular)'s Dinakar Keshav Shetty by 420 votes.
