Kittur is the assembly constituency which comes under the Belgaum district. It is one of the 224 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Constituencies. Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 for Kittur will be held on May 10 and the result was declared on May 13.
Kittur assembly constituency had 1,85,002 electors in 2018, out of which 93,699 were male voters and 91,296 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.8% votes.
In 2018, 11 candidates were competing for Kittur assembly constituency seat. Kittur was one of 104 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. It was a one way contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's Doddagoudar Mahantesh Basavantaray comfortably winning the election defeating Indian National Congress's Inamdar Danappagouda Basanagouda by a huge margin of 32,862 votes.
The top three candidates split 94.4% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Doddagoudar Mahantesh Basavantaray secured a total of 73,155 votes, while Indian National Congress's Inamdar Danappagouda Basanagouda got 40,293 votes. Independent candidate Babasaheb Devanagouda Patil bagged 25,366 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 49.7%, 27.4% and 17.2% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's Inamadar Danappagouda Basanagouda outperformed Bharatiya Janata Party's Suresh Shivarudrappa Marihal by 18,290 votes.
