Karkal is the assembly constituency which comes under the Udupi district. It is one of the 224 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Constituencies. Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 for Karkal will be held on May 10 and the result was declared on May 13.
In 2018, the Karkal assembly seat had 1,79,008 registered voters, 85,676 were male and 93,331 were female voters. 0.8% of voters opted for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In the 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election, there were 7 candidates in the fray from Karkal constituency. Karkal was one of 104 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. It was a one way contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's V. Sunil Kumar comfortably winning the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Gopala Bhandary by a huge margin of 42,566 votes.
The top two candidates split 96.8% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's V. Sunil Kumar got a total of 91,245 votes, while Indian National Congress's Gopala Bhandary secured 48,679 votes. All India Mahila Empowerment Party's candidate Maksood Ahamed secured 1,817 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 63.1%, 33.7% and 1.3% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Bharatiya Janata Party's V.Sunill Kumar beat Indian National Congress's H.Gopal Bhandary by 4,254 votes.
