Janata Dal (Secular)'s Nagangouda Kandkur won the election by upstaging Indian National Congress's Baburao Chinchansur by a margin of 24,480 votes.
The top two candidates split 90.1% of votes between them. Janata Dal (Secular)'s Nagangouda Kandkur got a total of 79,627 votes, while Indian National Congress's Baburao Chinchansur secured 55,147 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate Sayibanna secured 8,995 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 53.2%, 36.9% and 6.0% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's Baburao Chinchanasoor outperformed Janata Dal (Secular)'s Nagana Gouda Kandakura by 1,650 votes.
