It was a close contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's Sunil Biliya Naik winning the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Mankal Vaidya by a margin of just 5,930 votes.

The top two candidates split 97.9% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Sunil Biliya Naik got a total of 83,172 votes, while Indian National Congress's Mankal Vaidya secured 77,242 votes. All India Mahila Empowerment Party's candidate Gaphur Sab secured 1,446 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 50.7%, 47.1% and 0.9% respectively.

In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Independent candidate Mankala Subba Vaidya outperformed Janata Dal (Secular)'s Enayathullah Shabandri by 9,884 votes.
