Belgaum Dakshin assembly constituency had 2,30,416 electors in 2018, out of which 1,16,360 were male voters and 1,13,993 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.6% votes.
In the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election 2018, Belgaum Dakshin constituency had 13 candidates for assembly seat contention. Total 104 seats were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Belgaum Dakshin was one of them. The election for Belgaum Dakshin seat was comfortably won by Bharatiya Janata Party's Abhay Patil defeating Indian National Congress's M D Lakshminarayan (ANNAYYA) by a huge margin of 58,692 votes.
The top three candidates split 90.8% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Abhay Patil secured a total of 84,498 votes, while Indian National Congress's M D Lakshminarayan (ANNAYYA) got 25,806 votes. Independent candidate Prakash Appaji Maragale bagged 21,537 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 58.2%, 17.8% and 14.8% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Independent candidate Sambhaji Lakshman Patil defeated Bharatiya Janata Party's Abhay Patil by 6,310 votes.
