Patel was administered the oath as the 18th chief minister of Gujarat by Governor Acharya Devvrat. He took oath in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, chief ministers of BJP-ruled states and several other important dignitaries.
Patel won his first election in 2017 from Ghatlodia, where he won by a massive margin again this time. He was selected as chief minister in September last year, replacing Vijay Rupani as the BJP sought to ward off anti-incumbency in the prime minister's home state.
